Your Local Guide

When I help families move to Southwest Las Vegas, one of the first questions I get is about healthcare. Newcomers want to know how close the hospitals are, whether there are good urgent care options nearby, and what kind of medical infrastructure is growing in the corridor. These are fair questions. Your health is not something you want to compromise on for the sake of a great neighborhood.

The honest answer: Southwest Las Vegas is well-served for everyday care and getting better every year, but the major hospital corridor is a 15-to-25-minute drive depending on where you live in the area. Here is the full picture so you can make an informed decision about where to live and what to expect.

Full-Service Hospitals Serving Southwest Las Vegas

The Southwest corridor does not yet have a full-service hospital within its boundaries, but several major facilities are a straightforward drive via the 215 Beltway, I-15, or Durango Drive. Here is what you need to know about each one.

Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center

3186 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas | ~12 to 15 minutes from the Southwest corridor via the 215 and I-15

Sunrise Hospital is one of the largest and most comprehensive medical centers in the state. As a Level-II Trauma Center, it handles the most serious emergencies: major accidents, cardiac events, and complex surgeries. They have the largest emergency department in Nevada and a nationally recognized neurosurgery program. For Southwest residents living in Mountain's Edge, Rhodes Ranch, or Southern Highlands, Sunrise is approximately 12 miles away and about a 15-minute drive in normal traffic via the 215 to I-15 north.

Sunrise Children's Hospital

3186 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas | Adjacent to Sunrise Hospital

Nevada's only dedicated children's hospital is part of the Sunrise campus. It houses the state's largest NICU and Pediatric ICU, which means families in the Southwest have world-class pediatric care within a 15-minute drive. If you are moving to the area with young children, this is a significant peace-of-mind factor. The ER at Sunrise Children's is staffed by board-certified pediatric emergency physicians around the clock.

MountainView Hospital

3100 N. Tenaya Way, Las Vegas | ~17 miles, approximately 20 minutes via the 215 north

MountainView Hospital sits in the northwest part of the valley near Centennial Hills, about a 20-minute drive from the Southwest along the 215 Beltway. It is a full-service acute care hospital with a Level-III trauma center, a dedicated heart institute, and an award-winning stroke program. MountainView also has a large orthopedic surgery center, making it a popular choice for sports injuries and joint replacements. For Southwest residents, MountainView is not the closest option, but it is easily reachable when you need a second major hospital within a reasonable drive.

Henderson Hospital

1050 W. Galleria Drive, Henderson | ~15 miles, approximately 18 minutes via the 215 east

Operated by the Valley Health System, Henderson Hospital is a full-service acute care facility that opened in 2016 and has been expanding ever since. For Southwest residents near the eastern edge of the corridor (closer to the 215 and Southern Highlands), Henderson Hospital is a viable alternative to Sunrise, with a modern emergency department, surgical services, maternity care, and a growing roster of specialists. It is a solid option for non-trauma emergencies and planned procedures.

Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center

9300 W. Sunset Road, Las Vegas | ~5 to 7 miles north of the Southwest corridor

Southern Hills is actually the closest full-service hospital to many Southwest neighborhoods, located at Sunset Road and the 215 Beltway. It offers emergency care, maternity services, imaging, and surgical services. It is a smaller facility than Sunrise but convenient for non-trauma emergencies and everyday hospital needs. For residents of Southern Highlands, Rhodes Ranch, or anywhere near the Durango/215 corridor, Southern Hills is about a 10-minute drive and is often the go-to choice for routine hospital visits.

Freestanding Emergency Rooms in the Southwest

One of the best developments for Southwest residents in recent years has been the arrival of freestanding emergency departments right in the neighborhood. These are fully staffed ERs operated by major hospital systems, not urgent care centers. They can handle true emergencies, and they feed into the main hospital campuses if you need to be admitted.

ER at Blue Diamond (Spring Valley Hospital)

9217 S. Cimarron Road, Las Vegas 89178

Located right on Blue Diamond Road, this freestanding ER is the closest emergency room for residents of Mountain's Edge and southern parts of the Southwest corridor. It is operated by Spring Valley Hospital and provides full emergency services with the ability to transfer patients to the main campus if needed.

ER at Desert's Edge (Sunrise Hospital)

9075 Blue Diamond Road, Las Vegas 89178

This Sunrise Hospital extension sits on Blue Diamond Road near Fort Apache and provides the same standard of emergency care you would get at the main Sunrise campus. For families living in the southern part of the corridor, this means a Level-II trauma system affiliate is basically in your backyard.

These freestanding ERs are a game-changer for the Southwest. They reduce the drive time for true emergencies from 15-plus minutes to 5 or 10, giving families faster access to critical care when every minute counts.

Urgent Care & Walk-In Clinics Near Durango and the 215

For everyday medical needs like strep throat, minor cuts, ear infections, and school physicals, urgent care and walk-in clinics are where most families go. The Southwest is actually quite well-served in this category, with several excellent options along the Durango Drive and 215 corridor.

CareNow Urgent Care: Arby & Durango

7040 S. Durango Drive, Suite 105 | (702) 260-1261

CareNow Urgent Care : Durango & Flamingo

4075 S. Durango Drive, Suite 108 | (702) 701-9509

Further north on Durango near Flamingo, this location serves residents on the northern edge of the Southwest corridor. Walk-in friendly with extended hours.

Health Xpress Medical Center

7345 S. Durango Drive, Suite 111 | (702) 463-1400

Open Monday through Friday 8am–6pm. A local urgent care option right on the Durango strip offering walk-in visits, physicals, and minor emergency treatment. Convenient for residents of Mountain's Edge and the southern Durango corridor.

MinuteClinic at CVS

7285 S. Durango Drive, Las Vegas

Walk-in clinic inside the CVS at Durango and the 215. Great for quick visits: vaccinations, strep tests, minor infections, and prescription refills. Open seven days a week with no appointment necessary.

The Intermountain Health Badura Clinic, which opened in July 2026 at 90,000 square feet, also includes urgent care services alongside its primary care and specialty offerings. This new facility is a significant upgrade to the Southwest's medical infrastructure and sits right in the heart of the Enterprise corridor.

Primary Care & Specialists: Growing Fast Near Durango and the 215

One area where the Southwest has made huge strides is in primary care and specialist access. When I first moved to this area, finding a doctor nearby meant driving to the medical district near Sunrise or heading over to Summerlin. That is no longer the case.

The Durango Drive corridor between the 215 and Blue Diamond Road has become a mini medical hub. Family medicine physicians, internists, pediatricians, dentists, orthodontists, dermatologists, and optometrists have all opened practices along this stretch. The rapid residential growth in the area has attracted medical professionals who want to be close to their patients.

Key primary care networks with clinics in the Southwest corridor include:

  • Intermountain Health Badura Clinic : 90,000 sq ft facility with primary care, specialty services, imaging, and urgent care. A game-changer for the corridor.
  • Southwest Medical Associates : Multiple locations in the area with family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and OB/GYN.
  • Optum Care : Clinic locations near the 215 and Durango offering primary and specialty care.
  • Dental and orthodontic practices : Numerous options along Durango Drive, including dedicated pediatric dentistry and orthodontics practices convenient for families in Rhodes Ranch and Southern Highlands.

For specialists, the Southwest still relies somewhat on the major hospital campuses and the medical district. But for routine specialty care like cardiology, endocrinology, and gastroenterology, more and more providers are opening satellite offices in the corridor to serve the growing population. The Intermountain Health clinic alone is bringing dozens of specialists to the area.

Pharmacy Options in the Southwest

Prescriptions and pharmacy access are straightforward in the Southwest. Every major pharmacy chain has locations in the corridor:

CVS Pharmacy

Multiple locations including Durango at the 215 (with MinuteClinic), Blue Diamond Road, and Fort Apache. Most offer drive-through and 24-hour prescription services at select locations.

Walgreens

Locations at Durango near the 215, Blue Diamond Road, and Jones Boulevard. Most have drive-through pharmacies and immunizations available walk-in.

Walmart Pharmacy

The Walmart at Blue Diamond and Decatur has a full-service pharmacy. Also at the Walmart on Warm Springs near the 215. Competitive pricing and weekend hours available.

Most pharmacies in the area also offer drive-through pickup, immunizations, and medication synchronization programs. You are never more than a 10-minute drive from a pharmacy in any Southwest neighborhood.

The Las Vegas Medical District & UNLV Medical School

The Las Vegas Medical District is centered around University Medical Center (UMC) on Charleston Boulevard and Martin Luther King Boulevard, about 12 to 15 miles northeast of the Southwest corridor. This district includes UMC (the region's only Level-I Trauma Center), the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, and several specialty hospitals.

For Southwest residents, the Medical District is about a 20-to-25-minute drive depending on traffic. While it is not as close as the freestanding ERs and urgent care options in the corridor, it is useful to know that Nevada's most advanced medical resources are accessible when you need them. The UNLV medical school brings teaching faculty and research programs to the valley, and its graduate medical education programs are steadily expanding the pool of specialists available across the city.

The Honest Truth About Healthcare Access in Southwest Las Vegas

I want to be straightforward with you because that is how I operate. Southwest Las Vegas communities are well-served by urgent care, primary care, pharmacy, and freestanding emergency services. For everyday healthcare, the kind of care you actually need 95% of the time, the area is excellent. It gets better every year as more medical providers follow the residential growth.

However, the Southwest is not as close to the main hospital corridor as Henderson or central Las Vegas. If you live in Henderson near the 215, you can be at St. Rose Dominican or Henderson Hospital in under 10 minutes. In the Southwest, you are looking at a 15-to-20-minute drive to a full-service hospital for most locations. The freestanding ERs at Blue Diamond and Desert's Edge help bridge that gap for emergencies, but families who want a full hospital within five minutes should consider areas closer to the main hospital corridor.

For everyone else, and for most families I work with, the trade-off is worth it. The Southwest offers newer homes, reported school data that varies by address, more land, a stronger sense of community, and a dining and entertainment scene that is unmatched in the valley. And with the new Intermountain Health Badura Clinic, the two freestanding ERs, and growing primary care and specialist networks, the healthcare gap is narrowing fast.
